Adam as a Type of Christ Adam was created not begotten; Christ is begotten not created Adam was created in a supernatural way; Christ was incarnate in a supernatural way Adam is without father or mother; Christ is without a father according to His humanity, and without a mother according to His divinity "'The first man Adam became a living being.' The last Adam  became a life-giving spirit." (1 Cor 15:45) "The first man was  of the earth,  made  of dust; the second Man  is the Lord from heaven." (1 Cor 15:47) Adam was created in the image of God; Christ is the image of God (2 Cor 4:4) Adam was a man who desired to be like God; Christ, while He is still God, became Man out of His desire to save us Adam was proud; Christ emptied Himself Eve was created from Adam's side; the Church was formed from Christ's side Adam disagreed and disobeyed; Christ obeyed to the point of death, even the death of the cross (Philippians 2:8) Adam ate from the tree; Christ was crucified on the tree Adam reached out and took the fruit; Christ reached His hands on the Cross Adam savored the taste of the fruit that was good for food; Christ tasted the sour wine God called Adam "Adam, where are you?"; Christ called to God "My God, My God why have You forsaken Me?" (Psalm 22:1, Matthew 27:46) God said Adam "In the seat of your face you shall eat bread"; Christ prayed fervently and His sweat became as drops of blood falling to the ground" (Luke 22:44) God said to Adam "Cursed is the ground for your sake"; Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law and became cursed for our sake (Galatians 3:13) God said to Adam that the earth will bring forth for him thorns and thistles; Christ wore on His head a crown of thorns After he sinned, Adam was left naked; Christ was crucified unclothed that He may clothe us with the garments of His righteousness Adam sewed together fig leaves to make for himself a covering; Christ cursed the fig tree to wither because fig leaves are not a covering, but a symbol of hypocrisy Animals were sacrificed to cover Adam with the tunics of skin; Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed that He may clothe us with His glory Adam was tempted in the garden and fell; Christ was tempted in the wilderness and was victorious The serpent caused Adam to fall; Christ bruised the head of the serpent Adam sinned; Christ committed no sin, nor was found in His mouth any deceit (1 Peter 2:22) Adam was cast out of Paradise; Christ opened the doors of Paradise God gave Adam and Eve dominion over nature; but they lost authority over nature because of sin; Christ exercised dominion over nature, fish, animals, birds Adam was created on the sixth day; Christ was crucified on the sixth day (to renew our Creation) By seducing the first man, the devil slew him. By slaying the last man, the devil lost the first from his snare. (St Augustine)
